What did they do first? What do they wish they’d done differently? And what advice do they have for the next generation of CEOs?
In The New CEO, Ty Wiggins and his contributing partners Justus O'Brien, Laura Sanderson, Margot McShane, Rusty O'Kelley and Stephen Langton offer a backstage pass for clients on nailing the first year as CEO—whether it’s their first, second, or third time in the role.
The book explores how new CEOs can successfully transition into the role. It looks at how they can successfully navigate their first 12-18 months and lay the foundations for their long-term success. The book is based on original research with 200+ CEOs globally, as well as candid conversations with CEOs from Verizon, PepsiCo, Campbell’s, UPS, Whirlpool, and more.
Readers will learn:
Why CEO transitions are so hard, including the loneliness of the role, the scope of responsibilities, and the increasing complexity of the job.
How to address 10 key milestones during their transition, including how to:
Develop a solid transition plan
Engage the board
Build and lead your top team
Address your culture
Overcome setbacks
Communicate effectively
Set your priorities
Please head to our The New CEO microsite for more information.
The book is relevant to all CEOs—whether they a first-time CEOs or seasoned ones—across industries and ownerships, including PE and family-owned offices. The lessons are also relevant to C-suite executives, aspiring CEOs, and anyone who regularly works with CEOs, including board members, in-house counsel, consultants, and PE firms.
For all the attention on CEOs, there is very little written about how CEOs can successfully navigate their transition period. This book aims to plug the gap in the market, and position Russell Reynolds Associates as a trusted advisor to CEOs globally (see below for the scale of the business opportunity).
