Global Leadership Monitor—Singapore

Explore the top external business threats leaders in Singapore face today—and how prepared they feel they are to manage them in our bi-annual survey.

In the rapidly shifting leadership landscape, what external business threats are Singapore's leaders most concerned with today? And how are they prioritizing their efforts to navigate these challenges?

Our bi-annual Global Leadership Monitor reveals the top five external factors that leaders in Singapore believe will impact the health of their organizations over the next 12-18 months, and how well-prepared these leaders feel they are to address these impending challenges.

Economy is the top concern for leaders globally, including Singapore

Against the backdrop of a potential global recession and trade tensions, the economy weighs heavily on leaders globally, with approximately 3/4 of Singapore leaders citing uncertain economic growth as a top concern. Related economic concerns also gained prominence with Singapore leaders with geopolitical uncertainty climbing from fourth to third place and increased regulation from eight to seventh place, while trade conflicts have entered the top ten threats for the first time. In uncertain and tumultuous environments, decisive leadership actions are crucial in setting examples for the organization, distinguishing those who thrive from those who falter, and defining competitive success.

Leaders in Singapore are increasingly unprepared to face technological change

Technological changes is a growing concern for leaders in Singapore. Our Global Leadership Monitor found that majority of leaders ranked it as a top-five threat to organizational health. In the last six months, this ranking has moved from third to second place on Singapore leaders’ agenda. The rapid evolution of generative AI and the ensuing information overload have left many leaders feeling unprepared, with a notable decline in leaders feeling equipped to navigate this change.

Availability of talent and skills remains significant challenge

In Singapore, approximately half of the leaders cite the availability of key talent and skills a critical issue. Despite consistently ranking among the top five threats since 2021, only a fifth of leaders feel prepared to address this gap.
