The Eight Moves to Rewrite Your Leadership Playbook with Former IG Group CEO June Yee Felix

In today’s Redefiners, Tomas and Marla talk with former IG Group CEO June Yee Felix about how she had to rewrite her own leadership playbook after stepping into the CEO role during a time of increased regulation and scrutiny. She explores why leaders need to rewrite their playbooks to better navigate chaos and uncertainty, and shares the eight moves they’ll need to do it. She also discusses the characteristics that make up an effective board and the role boards play when it comes to tech and AI governance.

Former CEO, IG Group

June served as CEO of IG Group (‘IG’) from October 2018 to September 2023 having previously been a non-executive director with the company since 2015.

IG is a FTSE 100 UK headquartered global fintech company that delivers dynamic online trading platforms and educational content to retail and institutional clients. It offers its 380,000 clients access to over 19,000 markets through market-leading platforms and a range of risk management tools.

During her tenure, IG doubled its revenues to exceed £1 billion and doubled its profits. Despite market and regulatory challenges IG has shown its strength in technology and innovation and June has successfully implemented a growth strategy that has made it a more diversified, sustainable and global business. IG successfully completed a $1 billion acquisition of US trading firm “tastytrade” to strengthen its US presence and grew its Japanese business five-fold, making it the leading international player in its sector.

In 2020, June became a non-executive director of RELX, a FTSE 10 company that is a recognized global leader in information-based analytics and tools company --an “AI Powerhouse” according to Bloomberg. RELX serves institutions and professions across multiple industries including governments, healthcare and corporations. In 2025, June became a non-executive director for Iron Mountain Inc., a S&P 500 information analytics company and Hiscox, a FTSE 100 company in specialty insurance.

June's career has focused on leading and growing financial services and tech companies in Europe, the US and Asia Pacific. From 2014-2018 she served as the President of Europe and Russia for Verifone, a global payments company. June has also held senior positions as the Global Head of Healthcare for a division of Citibank. In this role, she led the creation of a new business that received the Edison Award for Innovation.

As Global Head of Banking and Financial Markets, a $20B business at IBM Corporation in New York; and Head of Asia Pacific for Chase Manhattan Bank Global Payments and Treasury Services Division in Hong Kong she drove strong growth. In 2000, June was CEO of Certco, a private company providing leading edge certification technology to the largest Broker-Dealers globally.

June graduated summa cum laude (first class honors) with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering and Pre-Med from the University of Pittsburgh.

In March 2021, June was ranked Number 1 in the Top 25 Women Leaders in Financial Technology in Europe. In 2019, she was a finalist in the business category of the Asian Women of Achievement awards and in 2012 she received the Edison Award - an award honoring excellence in technology innovation. In 2006, she was recognized as the Most Influential Women in Payments by PaymentSource and SourceMedia and elected into the Innovators Hall of Fame by Banking Technology News.

June is a member of C200, an invitation only organization of the world’s most successful women entrepreneurs and corporate leaders. She also sits on the Board of Advisors for the London Technology Club, a member of NACD, WCD and IWF and is an active mentor to female senior executives.
