Our bi-annual Global Leadership Monitor reveals the top five external factors that leaders in Greater China believe will impact the health of their organizations over the next 12-18 months, and how well-prepared these leaders feel to address these impending challenges.

 

Economy is the top concern for leaders globally, including Greater China

Against the backdrop of a potential global recession and escalating trade tensions, the economy weighs heavily on leaders globally, with approximately 80% of Greater China leaders citing uncertain economic growth as a top concern. Related economic concerns also gained prominence with protectionism surging from ninth to seventh place and trade conflicts from tenth to eighth place. In uncertain and tumultuous environments, decisive leadership actions are crucial in setting examples for the organization, distinguishing those who thrive from those who falter, and defining competitive success.

 

Technological change and availability of talent and skills remain significant challenges

In Greater China, approximately half of the leaders identify technological change and the availability of key talent and skills as critical challenges. These two issues have consistently ranked among the top five concerns since 2021. Furthermore, while ~60% of leaders believe their executive teams are prepared to tackle technological changes, only ~40% feel equipped to address talent issues. In an evolving business landscape, effectively navigating these challenges is crucial for ensuring continuous growth and maintaining competitiveness.
