Insurance Executive Moves | Q4 2024

AMERICAS

Aflac

  • Virgil R. Miller has been named President of Aflac Incorporated, while retaining his role as President of Aflac U.S and member of the Executive Management. Miller will continue to report to Aflac Incorporated Chairman and CEO Daniel P. Amos.

  • Audrey Boone Tillman and Max K. Brodén have been promoted to SVP General Counsel Aflac Incorporated and SVP, CFO of Aflac Incorporated, respectively. Both Tillman and Brodén will continue to report to Aflac Incorporated Chairman and CEO Daniel P. Amos.

  • JR Shamley has been appointed SVP, National Account Business Development and Growth Solutions at Aflac. He joins from Aon.

AIG

  • Chris Schaper has been appointed EVP and CRO at AIG. He has held the position ad interim since September. His previous roles at AIG were CEO of AIG Re, Validus Re and AlphaCat.

  • AIG appoints Keith Walsh as EVP and CFO. Walsh, previously CFO of Marsh at Marsh McLennan, succeeds Sabra Purtill, who will advise on strategic projects during the transition.

Arch Capital

  • Nicolas Papadopoulo has been appointed CEO of Arch Capital and joins the Board of Directors, succeeding Marc Grandisson, who is retiring. Papadopoulo previously served as President and Chief Underwriting Officer of Arch Capital.

  • David Gansberg has been promoted to President of Arch’s Insurance Group, overseeing North American and International Insurance Operations. He previously served as CEO of Arch’s Mortgage Group.

  • Maamoun Rajeh has been promoted to President of Arch’s Mortgage and Reinsurance Groups, adding responsibility for the Mortgage Group to his oversight of the Reinsurance Group, which he has led since 2017.

AXIS Capital

  • Sara Farrup has been appointed Head of Global Markets at AXIS Capital and member of the Executive Committee, succeeding Mark Gregory, who will retire. Farrup previously served as Divisional President of Chubb’s Continental Europe and MENA business.

Erie Insurance

  • Cody Cook and Sarah Shine have been promoted from SVP to EVP and member of the Management Committee at Erie Insurance in their current capacities as Head Claims and Head of Experience and Customer Service respectively.

Liberty Mutual

  • Karen Morton, EVP and Chief Compliance Officer at Liberty Mutual, is set to retire. She will be succeeded by Nicole Arangio, currently Chief Compliance Officer, Global Risks.

Lincoln Financial

  • Jennifer Charters has been appointed EVP and Chief Information Officer at Lincoln Financial, succeeding Ken Solon, who will retire in early 2025. 

Manulife

  • Phil Witherington has been named the next President and CEO of Manulife, succeeding Roy Gori, who will retire and transition to an advisory role.

MassMutual

  • Mary Jane Fortin has been appointed CFO and member of the Executive Leadership Team of MassMutual, succeeding Betsy Ward, who is retiring. Fortin joins from Thrivent Financial, where she served as President and Chief Commercial Officer.

  • Vy Ho has been named Chief Actuary of MassMutual.

Marsh

  • Sarah DeWitt has been appointed CFO and member of the global leadership of Marsh. She succeeds Keith Walsh, who recently joined AIG. DeWitt previously served as VP and Head of Investor Relations.

New York Life

  • Janus Henderson appoints Bill Cassidy as Chief Technology Officer. Cassidy previously led technology transformations at New York Life as Chief Information Officer.

  • New York Life has appointed Vikas Sharma as Chief Data Officer and Achuth Rao as Head of Artificial Intelligence & Data Product Management.

Northwestern Mutual

  • Kelly Culler will assume the role of EVP and CHRO at Northwestern Mutual, succeeding Don Robertson, who will retire.

  • Jeb Bentley has been appointed EVP and Chief Investment Officer of Northwestern Mutual, succeeding Jeff Lueken, who will retire.

Prudential Financial

  • Andrew Sullivan has been appointed CEO of Prudential Financial, succeeding Charles F. Lowrey, who will retire. Sullivan, previously served as EVP and Head of International Businesses and Global Investment Management.

  • Caroline Feeney will expand her current role to assume the newly created role of Global Head of Insurance and Retirement at Prudential Financial, overseeing domestic and international insurance and retirement businesses. She will report to Sullivan.

  • Jacques Chappuis has been appointed President and CEO of PGIM, succeeding David Hunt, who will retire. Chappuis joins from Morgan Stanley and will report to Sullivan.

Truist Financial

  • Brad Bender has been appointed CRO and member of the Operating Council at Truist, succeeding Clarke R. Starnes III, who is retiring. Bender previously served as interim Chief Information Officer.

APAC 

Dai-chi Life

  • Fred Stute is appointed Chief Information Security Officer, a newly created position. He was previ-ously Head of Global Enterprise Architecture.

FWD Group

  • Peter Reynolds has been appointed Group Chief Strategic Development Officer at FWD Group. He joins from Oliver Wyman, where he was Partner and Head of Industries for Asia Pacific.

IAG

  • Jane Bowd has resigned as Group Company Secretary and Corporate Counsel of Insurance Australia Group.

Ping An

  • Fu Xin has been appointed CFO at Ping An, succeeding Zhang Zhichun.

  • Cai Fangfang has been named Chief Compliance Officer at Ping An.

QBE

  • Jamie Kelly has been appointed Group Chief Compliance Officer at QBE, succeeding Ed Rainsford, who becomes CRO, Australia Pacific. Kelly reports to Fiona Larnach, the Group’s CRO.

SOMPO

  • Thomas Leone has been appointed Chief Investment Officer at Sompo. Previously, he was Chief Investment Officer at PartnerRe. Leone succeeds Mark Silverstein, who is retiring.

EMEA

Allianz

  • Laura Gersch has been appointed CEO of Allianz Suisse. She succeeds Ruedi Kubat, who will become CEO of Allianz Leben, a subsidiary of Allianz Germany. Gersch has served as CFO of Allianz Suisse since 2022.

Aon

  • Anne Corona has been appointed CEO of Enterprise Clients and Global Chief Commercial Officer. She previously served as CEO of Asia Pacific for Aon. She will continue to be a member of the Aon Executive Committee and report to Lori Goltermann, CEO, Regions, North America and Enterprise Clients.

  • Magnus Roe has been appointed Global Chief Data and Analytics Officer at Aon. Based in Singapore, he previously served as Head of Strategy for Risk Analytics and Global COO for Reinsurance Analytics. Roe will report to Mindy Simon, COO of Aon.

  • Stephen Hofmann has been appointed U.S. CEO of Reinsurance Solutions for Aon, while Kevin Traetow will serve as U.S. Vice Chairman of Reinsurance Solutions. Both previously co-led as U.S. Co-Presidents. They will continue to report to Andy Marcell, CEO of Risk Capital for Aon.

  • Paul Schultz has been named Global Vice Chair of Reinsurance; Richard Pennay, Aon’s CEO of Insurance Linked Securities for Aon Securities, will succeed Paul Schultz as CEO of Aon Securities, reporting to Andy Marcell, CEO of Risk Capital for Aon.

AXA

  • Ewout Steenbergen has been appointed member of AXA’s Board of Directors to replace Rachel Duan.

  • Greg Schiffer has been appointed CEO, North America, Reinsurance at AXA XL Reinsurance, tran¬sitioning from his role as Managing Director, Head of US National Accounts at Swiss Re.

Baloise

  • Christoph Gloor and Hans-Jörg Schmidt-Trenz are not standing for re-election at the 2025 AGM Meeting of Baloise Holding. The Board of Directors will propose that Vincent Vandendael and André Helfenstein be elected to the Board of Directors instead. The Board of Directors will also nominate Robert Schuchna, a representative of Baloise’s largest shareholder at present, Cevian Capital.

  • Andrea Kleiner is to become the new Head of Business Clients at Baloise in Switzerland, joining the Executive Committee Baloise Switzerland. She is taking over from Patric Olivier Zbinden, who will in future be heading up the Customer Service division.

  • Thomas Schöb, previously Head Customer Service division, succeeds Jürg Ritz as CEO of Baloise Bank.

Talanx

  • Clemens Jungsthöfel, CFO Hannover Re will succeed Jean-Jacques Henchoz as CEO.
  • Christian Hermelingmeier, CFO of HDI Global SE, moves within the Group as CFO to Hannover Re.

Legal & General

  • Henrietta Baldock and Mark Jordy are joining the Board of Directors of Legal & General Group, replacing Lesley Knox and Philip Broadley who are retiring.

  • Eric Adler has been appointed CEO of Asset Management at Legal & General Group, and member of the Group Management Committee. He joins from PGIM, where he was President and CEO of Private Alternatives. Adler succeeds Michelle Scrimgeour.

  • Laura Mason has been appointed CEO of Legal & General Retail and member of the Legal & General Group Management Committee, succeeding Bernie Hickman.

  • Katie Worgan will join Legal & General in the newly created role of Group COO and member of the Group Management Committee. She joins from Lloyds Banking Group. 

R+V Versicherung

  • Dragica Mischler has been named Head of Risk & Finance at R+V Versicherung, a newly created division. Finance previously was headed by Marc Michallet, who will continue to head investment management and going forward additionally resume responsibility for M&A and international busi-ness. Both are part of R+V’s Management Committee.

  • Holger Nieswandt has been named Head of Active Reinsurance.

Swiss Re

  • Jonathan Rake has been appointed CEO of Swiss Re Solutions, succeeding Russell Higginbotham, who will retire after a 30-year career with Swiss Re.

Zurich Insurance

  • Tim Bailey becomes CEO of Zurich's new global Life Protection business, following four years as CEO of Zurich UK's Life & Investment.

  • Drazen Jaksic has been appointed CEO of Zurich UK, succeeding Tim Bailey.
