Jack “Rusty” O’Kelley III advises the world’s leading companies improve their overall effectiveness, performance and culture. Based in New York, Rusty is the co-leader of the Board & CEO Advisory Partners practice and the global leader of the Board Consulting and Effectiveness Practice. Rusty is an expert in board effectiveness and governance, CEO succession planning and activism defense. He has designed long-term succession plans for Fortune 500 companies and large-scale family businesses during a decorated career. Rusty has led numerous board consulting engagements as well as reviewed governance issues and director vulnerability in connection with activism defense. Rusty joined Russell Reynolds from another leading executive search firm where he led their Leadership Consulting Practice for the Americas. Previously, Rusty was a consultant with Katzenbach Partners (now PwC) after beginning his career as a corporate lawyer at Sullivan & Cromwell. Rusty has written or co-authored numerous white papers and articles including: “Looking Beyond the CEO,” “The Elegant Transition,” “Preparing for an Activist Before There is One,” annual “Global Trends in Corporate Governance” since 2016, and has been published in the Harvard Law School Forum on Corporate Governance and Financial Regulation.
Rusty earned a BS in accounting, summa cum laude, from Hampton University, where he was valedictorian of his class, and a JD from Yale Law School.
