Private Banking Executive Moves | Q4 2023

Basler Kantonalbank

  • Andreas Ruesch, deputy CEO of Basler Kantonalbank (BKB), has left the Group with immediate effect.
  • Regula Berger, Head of Commercial Customer Sales, has been appointed Deputy CEO alongside CEO Basil Heeb and Deputy Chairwoman of the Group Executive Board.

Clearstream Fund Centre

  • Moritz Dechow is the new Head of Clearstream Fund Centre in Zurich since January 1. Most recently, he held a senior position at Credit Suisse's product development unit. As CEO-designate, he replaces Bernard Tancré, who returned to Luxembourg after three years in the post. There, Tancré will continue to oversee the product and strategy functions for Clearstream Fund Services, as well as the recently acquired company FundsDLT.

Deutsche Bank

  • Véronique Voser has been promoted within the bank and is now Head of Global Corporate Coverage for the DACH region.
  • Her successor as Head of Corporate Clients in Switzerland is Mario Schlösser as of January 1.
  • After a brief stint at the «new» UBS, former Credit Suisse IT head Joanne Hannaford is moving to Deutsche Bank. Hannaford will become CIO of the Corporate Bank from London at the beginning of 2024. For the past three years, Rafael Otero has been responsible for managing the corporate bank's technology department.

Julius Baer

  • Julius Baer is reorganizing the Executive Board around CEO Philipp Rickenbacher as of 2024. This will involve various new appointments to the ten-member board, but also some departures.
  • Two veterans are no longer part of the new management team. Yves Robert-Charrue decided to leave the group in 2024 and is stepping down as a member of the Executive Board. He has been with the bank since 2009 and was responsible for the Switzerland, Middle East, and Africa markets. Beatriz Sanchez, Head of the Americas, is also stepping down from the Executive Board at her request. She relinquishes operational responsibility in January 2024 and takes on the role of Chair of Americas at Julius Baer.
  • Sonia Goessi, the new Head of Switzerland & Europe, joined Julius Baer from UBS on January 1. At UBS, she was most recently responsible for the Wealth Management for the Europe International North sector.
  • Thomas Frauenlob, Intermediaries & Family Offices, joins Julius Baer on April 1 from UBS where he heads the Global Financial Intermediaries. He was previously responsible for the Swiss Global Family Office and the Swiss Ultra-High Net Worth business.
  • Sandra Niethen, Client Strategy & Experience, is named Chief of Staff and Head of Strategy, She's been at Julius Baer since 2020.

Lombard Odier

  • Andreas Arni, Managing Director and Member of the Private Banking Executive Committee at Lombard Odier, is leaving. Former Credit Suisse Manager Sabine Heller will replace him and becomes the new Head of Zurich at Lombard Odier.
  • Ali Janoudi, who held a leading position in UBS's Middle East business for many years, is now taking on the role of Head of «New Markets» at the Geneva-based bank, effective in the beginning of April. He replaces Arnaud Leclercq, who will be responsible for key customers and will continue to support business development in the region.
  • On January 15, Nannette Hechler-Fayd'herbe will start at Lombard Odier as Head of Investment Strategy, Sustainability and Research and Chief Investment Officer for EMEA.
  • Lombard Odier has recruited the former Chief Information Officer for Credit Suisse in APAC. Hong Kong based John Woods will join as Chief Investment Officer and Head of Investment Solutions.

Pictet

  • Senior partner Renaud de Planta will step down from the Board of Partners at Pictet, effective end of June 2024. In January 2025 he'll join the Supervisory Board of the group and the Board of Directors of Banque Pictet & Cie.
  • Marc Pictet will replace de Planta in his role as Senior Partner in the beginning of July 2024.

Reichmuth & Co.

  • Lucerne-based private bankers Reichmuth & Co. appointed Sandro Kutschera as their new partner, effective since January 1. Coming from Credit Suisse, he took over the Entrepreneurial Clients Division and becomes a management team member.

Saxo Bank Switzerland

  • The previous CEO George Falkner has decided to leave Saxo Bank Switzerland for personal reasons. Stanislav Kostyukhin took on the new role with immediate effect.

UBS

  • UBS is merging the Boards of Directors of the two Swiss companies of UBS and Credit Suisse. Roger von Mentlen, has been appointed Chairman of the combined Board of Directors. He succeeds Markus Ronner and Peter Derendinger. Derendinger is the new Vice Chairman of Credit Suisse and Gabi Huber is the new Vice Chairman of UBS Switzerland. The other members are Christoph Brunner, Daniel Crittin, Claudia Dill, Barbara Lambert and Damian Vogel.
  • UBS's own manager Christa Emminger de Grenus has taken over the regional management in Berne, while Jürg Kaufmann has taken over Private Banking.
  • Patrick Müller, who is also Head of Wealth Management in the «Zurich City» division, will take over the regional management after the departure of Sabine Heller.
  • UBS divides private banking into «Zurich City» and a broader «Greater Zurich» area. The latter is headed by Guido Niffenegger.
  • At the helm of the region's retail business, Heller's successor is veteran UBS banker Stephan Hässig.
  • The business with corporate and institutional clients for the region is headed by Hannes Weibel.
  • Heather Beckman has succeeded Joanne Hannaford as Head of Wealth Management Americas Technology and Group Operations Technology Office Americas at UBS with immediate effect.
  • UBS appoints Niels Zilkens as Head of its Middle East wealth management business, and Bruno Daher, who was promoted to its top Middle East wealth management executive just three months ago, becomes the division's Chairman.
  • Martin Arregger is no longer with Credit Suisse Switzerland. Most recently he was responsible for the entire Mittelland region as Managing Director. It is still unclear where he will go to.

Vontobel

  • Vontobel's Head of Wealth Management Georg Schubiger and Christel Rendu de Lint, Head of Investments, are leading Vontobel as Co-CEOs since January 1, replacing Zeno Staub who announced earlier, that he is stepping down to become involved in politics.
  • Marko Roeder stepped down from his role as Head of Asset Management at the end of last year for personal reasons and to take on a new role within or outside the Vontobel Group.
