David Finke leads Russell Reynolds Associates’ global Hardware and IOT Practice and is an active member of its Board and CEO Advisory Partners. A co-founder of the firm’s Digital Transformation Practice, David also previously co-led the global Technology Practice. Based in Palo Alto, he conducts leadership and succession assignments at the board, CEO and CXO level for companies in the technology, automotive and industrial segments. With a focus on “where the digital meets the physical,” David advises clients on the leadership implications of disruptive trends such as AI, Internet-of-Things and X-as-a-Service. His recent assignments include Fortune 500 board appointments, as well as C-suite succession projects for large-cap enterprises and high-profile venture-backed start-ups.
Prior to joining Russell Reynolds Associates, David served as an executive in three venture-backed start-ups: Instill Corporation, an on-demand data and analytics provider; Closedloop Solutions, a software-as-a-service company; and XUMA, a systems integration and web hosting venture. Previously, he led new product introduction and business process re-engineering efforts at Silicon Valley icon SGI. David began his career in Japan with Sony Corporation, where he gained a strong foundation in electronics and supply chain management.
Education & Affiliations
David received his BA in East Asian studies from Yale University and an MBA from Harvard Business School, both with highest honors. He speaks fluent English and Japanese. A tireless advocate of diversity, equity and inclusion, David serves as a trustee of The Girls’ Middle School and previously served as a trustee of Leadership Public Schools, a nonprofit charter high school network serving ethnically and economically diverse student bodies in urban neighborhoods.
