Tsutomu Mito is a leadership advisor specializing in board and CEO advisory engagements. His work focuses on CEO and executive succession planning, executive assessment and coaching, and board effectiveness reviews. He has advised leaders across a wide range of industries, both Japanese and multinational, supporting organizations in enhancing enterprise value through leadership and talent strategy.
He began his career at Banyu Pharmaceutical (currently MSD K.K.), where he worked as a medical representative and a talent management professional within its Human Resources function, and was involved in organizational transformation following the company’s full acquisition by Merck & Co.
In 2008, he joined Barclays Global Investors (BGI) as Talent Management Leader and HR Business Partner. Following the acquisition of BGI by BlackRock in 2009, he played a key role in post-merger integration, leadership development, and organizational development initiatives.
He subsequently served as Senior HR Business Partner at MetLife and Fidelity International, where he partnered closely with senior leadership on strategy-aligned organizational consulting, business transformation, leadership development, executive coaching, talent assessment, and succession planning.
He joined Russell Reynolds Associates in 2018 and has since been instrumental in strengthening the firm’s advisory business in Japan.
