A recognized expert on culture and team effectiveness, Gretchen Anderson, PhD, leads the Culture Capability at Russell Reynolds Associates. She partners with clients across industries to serve as a sounding board and guide, helping to enhance team effectiveness and strengthen organizational culture.

Based in New York and Baltimore, Gretchen has over twenty years of cross-industry experience advising leaders at all levels on the complex relationship between organizational performance and individual motivation. Gretchen has built her approach through many years of designing and delivering culture work, including two years at another lead search and leadership firm. Previously, at PwC, she led the Katzenbach Center, a global institute on leadership and organizational culture.

Gretchen is the co-author, with Jon Katzenbach and James Thomas, of the acclaimed book The Critical Few: Energize Your Company’s Culture by Choosing What Really Matters (Berrett Koehler 2019).

Gretchen holds a BA in English from Middlebury College in Vermont and spent a year of undergraduate as a matriculated student at St. Hugh’s College at Oxford University. She has a PhD in literature from Stanford University.
