Will Board Quotas Be Implemented Across Europe?

Bloomberg References 2010 Russell Reynolds Associates & PWN Study

Bloomberg | March 5, 2012

Bloomberg reports that the European Commission is to consider board quotas after slow adoption of gender equality hiring across the EU. Viviane Reding, the European Union’s justice chief, proclaimed that a lack of gender equality ‘harms Europe’s competitiveness and hampers economic growth’, and asked business leaders and other groups to comment on measures that could bring progress.

Despite board equality being far from satisfactory in the EU, Bloomberg quotes a positive statistic from the Russell Reynolds Associates and European Professional Women’s Network study in October 2010, whereby the percentage of female directors in board seats of the 334 biggest European companies (SXXP) increased by 21 percent since 2008.
