CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Technology was supposed to liberate employees from geography, but participating panelists at Wednesday’s MIT Sloan CIO Symposium argued that when it comes to attracting and retaining talent, the location of corporate headquarters can still matter.

Diversity was another hot topic for panelists, who agreed that IT needed to do a better job. “IT jobs need to be rethought to attract more women,” said panel moderator Kristine Dery, research scientist at the MIT Sloan Center for Information Systems Research. Eric Sigurdson, managing director and CIO practice leader at Russell Reynolds said companies need to “take more risks to attract diverse talent.”
