Webinar: Building Boards in a Digital World

Do You Have the Leaders You Need?

January 30, 2013

In this 60-minute complimentary webinar, Russell Reynolds Associates’ Charles A. Tribbett, director Margaret Pederson and Directors & Boards' Jim Kristie discuss the challenges and opportunities associated with developing the needed critical mass of digital expertise and understanding needed to carry boards, CEOs, and companies into an increasingly complex global business environment."

The digital transformation of business is changing dramatically the products and services companies produce and the processes used to produce them. The resulting need for innovation in the C-suite—and particularly from the CEO—is putting new expectations on boards of directors. After all, how can boards provide counsel to the CEO, ask the right questions of management, and manage the CEO succession process in an increasingly digital environment if they themselves don't have a certain critical mass of the digital “right stuff?”

To ascertain how different companies are responding to the need for digital fluency in the boardroom, the Russell Reynolds Associates Technology and Digital Transformation Practice analyzed the backgrounds of the board directors of the 100 largest publicly traded companies in the United States, Europe and Asia. While the data show that that many of the largest companies in the United States are grappling with the task of building digital capability in the boardroom, those in Europe and Asia have even more work to do.
