Shawn Banerji talks to WSJ's CIO Journal about the under-appreciation of CIOs despite the significant role they are asked to play in driving strategic innovation.
Shawn Banerji, managing director of the information officer’s practice at executive search firm Russell Reynolds Associates, tells CIO Journal he’s “genuinely surprised” at the low esteem in which CIOs are held. Nearly half of the searches Banerji conducts are for roles requiring a significant contribution to innovation. Chief executives who don’t see their CIOs as strategic either are mistaken or have the wrong person in the job, he says.
