John M. "J." Hewins
J. Hewins is a senior member of the firm's Leadership & Succession Sector. His 20-year career has focused on C-level executive assessment and succession planning, as well as other leadership consulting projects including executive coaching and executive transition, top team effectiveness, and broad-based leadership development. He has worked on six continents, serving boards, CEOs, and CHROs of blue-chip corporations across a range of industries, including oil and gas, metals and mining, technology, professional services, and diversified manufacturing industries, as well as venture capital and private equity investors and their portfolio companies in the natural resources, software, hardware, materials science, and life science industries. J. is based in San Francisco.
Prior to joining the firm, J. was a partner in the Leadership Consulting Practice of a global executive search firm. Earlier in his career, J. worked at Spencer Trask & Co., a private equity and venture capital firm, served as a strategy consultant at Mitchell Madison Group/USWeb-CKS/marchFIRST, and was director of research for RLM Associates, a boutique retained executive search firm.
J. has a B.A. in cultural anthropology from Columbia University (summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa) and an M.B.A. in finance and organizational behavior from the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago.
