Maria advises clients in the Healthcare Sector, with a focus on biotechnology and personalized medicine. She recruits C-level leaders and other senior-level executives for a variety of healthcare clients, specializing in VC-backed and emerging biotech companies. Maria is based in San Francisco.
Prior to joining the firm, Maria served as Mergers and Acquisitions Practice Lead for Cargill, Inc. where she helped senior executives identify and realize synergies in joint ventures and acquisitions. Before that, while serving as Cargill's Strategy and Business Development Project Team Lead, she led a successful global acquisition that added a strategic asset to Cargill's portfolio that unlocked key Asian markets. She also managed a variety of business unit strategies that were instrumental in growth in mature markets. Earlier, Maria drove the US launch of Truvia®, which achieved first to market position in the new zero-calorie natural sweetener segment. Prior to Cargill, Maria spent eight years in biotech, splitting her time between life sciences investing at Illinois Ventures, a seed and early-stage venture capital firm, and biotech research in emerging tools and diagnostic start-ups in San Diego. She started her career at Life Technologies (Invitrogen) working on their TOPO® cloning technology.
Maria received a B.A. in biology from Bowdoin College and an M.B.A. from Booth School of Business at The University of Chicago.
