Welcome to the October 2008 edition of HardWhere Asia/Pacific, a regular update from Russell Reynolds Associates which highlights executive moves and other developments in the hardware marketplace in the Asia/Pacific region. Canon

  • Kazutada Kobayashi has been promoted from General Manager of the Strategic Market Development Division, Inkjet Product Operations to President and CEO of the company’s Hong Kong operations.

Cisco

  • Seiji Iwasaki joins as Client Director, Japan Service Provider Sales. Mr. Iwasaki previously served as Director, Field Support Operations at AT&T Japan.
  • Benny Lee has been named as Managing Director for Unified Communications, Asia-Pacific. Prior to joining Cisco, Mr. Lee founded Contact Systems Limited, providing management consultancy services to enterprises in the Asia-Pacific region. Prior to that, Mr. Lee was President, Asia-Pacific at Tandberg.
  • Hirofumi Maekawa becomes Director of Operations, Japan. Mr. Maekawa previously worked at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology.
  • Jeff Sheard, Channels Director, ANZ, has left the company to start his own business. He cited family and lifestyle considerations as reasons for the change, explaining that his next step would have meant an international move.

Creative Technology

  • Winston Tan has been appointed as Head of Operations for the company’s India operations. Prior to this, Mr. Tan has worked in sales, marketing and business development roles in the same sector.
  • Charlie Whittock has been promoted to Managing Director for the company’s Asia-Pacific operations. Prior to this, Mr. Whittock was Managing Director for the company’s London office.

Hewlett-Packard

  • Ernest Chan joins as Director, Operations for the Personal Systems Group, responsible for supply chain management for the company’s China operations, based in Shanghai, China. Prior to that, Mr. Chan was East Asia Sales and Operations Planning Director at Motorola.
  • Eric Goh has been promoted from Vice President of Marketing for the Technology Solutions Group for the company’s Asia-Pacific and Japan operations to Managing Director for the company’s Hong Kong operations.
  • Felix See becomes Vice President of the Technology Solutions Group and Managing Director for the company’s Taiwan operations.
  • Karthik Srinivasan has been named as Vice President of the Personal Systems Group for the company’s Asia-Pacific operations. Prior to this, Mr. Srinivasan was Asia-Pacific Managing Director at Palm.
  • See Chin Teik has been promoted from Vice President of Personal Systems Group Sales for the company’s Southeast Asia and Taiwan operations to Senior Vice President for Personal Systems Group’s Asia-Pacific and Japan operations.

Hitachi

  • Taiji Hasegawa has been named as Representative Executive Officer, Senior Vice President and Executive Officer, in charge of the Automotive Systems Business and Procurement. Previously, Mr. Hasegawa was Chairman, Hitachi Automotive Products, USA.
  • Masao Hisada is now Vice President and Executive Officer, Deputy General Manager of the Corporate Marketing Group, and General Manager of the Global Business Division of the company.
  • Takao Koyama has been appointed as Managing Executive Officer, Deputy Chief Senior Director of Marketing and President of the Kansai Office.
  • Kunihiko Ohnuma becomes Representative Executive Officer, Executive Vice President and Executive Officer, in charge of the Industrial Infrastructure Business (Automotive Systems Business), Life Infrastructure Business (Urban Planning and Development Business, Consumer Business), and President and CEO of the Consumer Business Group.

Motorola

  • Paul Blinkhorn has been appointed Country Manager, Australia. He will continue in his current role as Vice President of the Enterprise Mobility Business for Australia and New Zealand as well as Asia-Pacific channels.
  • Ian Chapman-Banks has been named Corporate Vice President and General Manager of the Mobile Devices Division in Asia. Mr. Chapman-Banks will oversee the company’s handset subsidiaries across markets such as Japan, South Korea, Southeast Asia and India.

NEC

  • Kiyofumi Kusaka has been promoted from General Manager of the International Solutions Promotion Division at the company’s operations in Japan to the CEO for NEC Asia.

NXP

  • Oswald Ning Lv joins as Regional Sales and Marketing Director for the company’s China operations. Prior to that, Mr. Lv was Sales General Manager at AMD China.

Panda International Telecommunication Systems

  • Xia Dechuan has been promoted from Executive Deputy General Manager to Deputy General Manager of the company.

Qualcomm

  • John Stefanac becomes Vice President and President of the company’s Southeast Asia-Pacific operations. Prior to this, Mr. Stefanac was Vice President and General Manager of Asia-Pacific at Nokia.

Ricoh

  • Les Richardson has been promoted from General Manager of Systems Support to Managing Director for the company’s Australian operations.

Scientific Games

  • Yan Xuan has been named President for Greater China and Senior Vice President of Scientific Games International. Previously, he worked for Oracle as Vice President of Government Affairs and Business Development for the Greater China region.

Sony

  • Anil Sethi has been appointed to the newly created position of President and Region Head of Sony Ericsson India. Prior to that, Mr. Sethi was Senior Vice President of Broadcast and Business Solutions and Systems Integration at Sony Canada.

Sun Microsystems

  • Gan Boon San has been named as President of the company’s Asia South Geographically Established Market (GEM). Prior to this, Mr. Boon San was the Chief of Operations of Sun Asia South and also Managing Director of Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Brunei and Bangladesh.
  • Kenneth J. Buchanan has been appointed as Vice President, Services Practice for the company’s Asia-Pacific operations.
  • Jason Chung becomes Vice President, Services Practice for the firm’s Asia-Pacific operations.
  • Lionel Lim has been promoted from President of the company’s Asia South GEM to Senior Vice President, Asia-Pacific.
  • Grant Richard has been appointed as Vice President of Global Customer Services (GCS) for the company’s Asia-Pacific region. Prior to this, Mr. Richard was Managing Director of Sun’s GCS unit in Australia and New Zealand.
  • Tan Kwang-Meng has been appointed as Vice President of the company partner’s sales organization for the Asia-Pacific region. Prior to this, Mr. Tan was Director for Sun’s operations in the Asia South region.
  • KP Unnikrishnan has been promoted from Director Marketing Alliances and Teleweb Sales, India to Regional Marketing Director for company’s operations in emerging markets.
  • Anil Valluri is now Vice President and Managing Director of the GEM Division for the company’s Indian operations. Prior to this, Mr. Valluri has covered many functions, including leading the Client Services Organization and Services Practice for the India GEM.

United Microelectronics Corporation

  • Stan Hung was promoted from Senior Vice President to Chairman of the company.
  • Dr. Shih-Wei Sun, former Chief Operating Officer, is now the CEO of the company.
