Mirah Horowitz

Based in Palo Alto, CA, Mirah Horowitz is a member of the firm’s Nonprofit Sector, with a special emphasis on Higher Education.

Mirah has recruited Deans, Provosts, Vice-Presidents, and Presidents to universities across the country. Her recent search work includes recruiting the President of Virginia Tech, the President of Furman University, the Dean of Arts and Sciences at the University of Pennsylvania, the Provost at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, the Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies at Michigan State University, and the Dean of the School of Law at Southern Methodist University. Her clients also include the University of Texas at Arlington, the George Washington University, the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, Rice University and Tulane University.

In addition to her work in higher education, Mirah has a strong track record of recruiting leaders of national nonprofit institutions such as the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, the Edward M. Kennedy Institute on the Senate and the Urban Institute.

​Previous Experience

Prior to joining Russell Reynolds Associates, Mirah served as the Senior Counsel in the Office of Legal Policy, United States Department of Justice. There, she developed strategy for many projects, drafted regulations and vetted nominees for the federal judiciary. Previously, she was a Supreme Court Clerk for Justice Stephen Breyer, Chief Counsel for Senator Robert Menendez and Counsel for Senator John F. Kerry. Mirah began her career in Los Angeles as a Clerk for Judge Kim McLane Wardlaw on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. She also served as an Associate with Akin Gump Strauss Hauer and Feld LLP.

Additional Professional Activities

Mirah is the Executive Director and Founder of Lucky Dog Animal Rescue, Inc. Founded in 2009, it  is an all-volunteer, non-profit animal rescue organization dedicated to saving the lives of homeless animals and educating the community on responsible pet ownership. Since that time, it has saved over 8,000 dogs.


Mirah received her B.A., magna cum laude, in public policy and history from Duke University and her J.D., magna cum laude, from Duke University School of Law.​
